Tony Burkett received a Master of Science degree in cardiac rehabilitation and exercise physiology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1988. He received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from West Virginia University in 1981. Certification from The American College of Sports Medicine as a Exercise Specialist was achieved in 1989. Previous employment experiences include serving as a cardiac rehabilitation specialist at Lee Memorial Health System in Fort Myers, as a graduate research and teaching assistant at Virginia Tech, and as a research assistant at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Mr. Burkett has collaborated on a number of federally funded research projects and has presented and published several papers in the areas of cardiac rehabilitation and cardiovascular risk modification.
