Case Study Peer Group Evaluation

A major problem in group work is what economist’s refer to as the "free-rider problem." Though teams can be wonderful things there are always benefits and costs. This evaluation is designed to let me know how extensive a problem free-riders were in your work. You should make this evaluation by yourself, NOT jointly with your colleagues. Any additional comments you have can be placed on the back of this form.

Part II. Please evaluate the total contribution of the other members of your team as follows. YOU ARE NOT TO EVALUATE YOURSELF.

In giving your group members a score, assume that there are 100 points available for each member of the team OTHER THAN YOU. Thus, if your team size is three (including you), there are 200 points available to distribute among your two teammates. Allocate them in a manner which you believe properly reflects each person's relative contribution to the project. For example, some might be over 100 while others will be under. If Mary did very little she might receive 40 and Kim did a lot so she would receive the remaining 160 points. In any case, the total points allocated should be equal to: (100) (number of teammates.)

Since this will be a factor in individual evaluation by the instructor, please give this CONFIDENTIAL RATING careful thought. When you have completed this form, please return it directly to the professor.
