Agenda for SW Model United Nations Workshop for Saturday, January 29th, 2000

 

Note:  this agenda can serve as a model for our November 4th Workshop.

 

Delegates meet initially in room 249, Academic Building 2.

 

9:00-9:15  Introductions

·        FGCU facilitators, Naples Council on World Affairs Organizers

9:15-10:15  Review of Rules of Procedure and delegate quiz

·        Secretary General does roll call of attending delegations

·        Judges to discuss their understanding of rules of procedure

·        Delegate quiz – only one delegate from each country may participate

·        award to last delegate standing; questions on rules of procedure will eventually give way to questions on knowledge of the UN.

·        Quiz to end at 10:15 after which winner is determined by lottery

10:15-11:45  Mock Sessions of two to three committees (this will depend on attendance).

·        Committee and agenda topic:  Fourth Committee, the United Nations and the War on Drugs.  The Security Council will also meet to consider a mock  scenario.

·        Mock sessions to begin with a 15 minute caucus after which committees will be convened.

·        Opportunity for delegates to practice both procedural and caucusing skills

·        The first mock session will conclude with an analysis of the proceedings the suggestions for the group when they reconvene.

11:45-12:30  Lunch Break

·        Lunch to be served just steps away, at the FGCU café!

12:30 -1:30  Mock Sessions to Continue

·        Delegates continue to meet in their committees – committees strive to pass resolutions; additional agenda topics to be considered if initial items have already been concluded.

·        Coaches meeting to run concurrently with the second mock sessions.  Meeting place to be announced.

1:30-2:00  Final Plenary:  all delegates and coaches to reconvene in AB2, 249

·        Analysis of mock sessions to consider the following questions:

·        What did the committees do?

·        Are there aspects of the rules of procedure that remain ambiguous?

·        Evaluation of workshop
