Web Board:
Simulating a classroom discussion atmosphere through WWW
The webboard serves as a discussion room, and enables
us to discuss outside the class room. It also enables everyone
to participate in the discussion.
Here is my philosophy for this:
- I serve as the moderator for this webboard
- From time to time I will post topics for discussion, and I
expect every one to actively participate in the discussion.
- Students can post their messages in response to my posts, or
can even reply to posts from your fellow students.
- Students can also post new topics for discussion.
The webboard is very easy to use. Read below for some basic
instructions on how to use the Web Board.
It is (really) very easy to use the webboard.
To begin with, using your Internet browser, enter the URL as
http://onyx.fgcu.edu/~17
You will get a screen asking you to enter your user name and pass word.
If you have used the web board before, enter your username and password,
and you will enter the conference room for CGS 1100.
If you are a first time user, choose a user name and pass word for yourself
and enter.
The system will prompt to check if you are a new user.
Confirm that you are a new user, and then are asked to fill in an online
form. Fill in the required form, submit it and that's it.
Once you are in the conference room, you can:
- read the messages on any topic available in the various conferences
(click on the message to read),
- reply to the messages (use the option REPLY), or
- post a new topic for discussion (use the option POST).
It's that simple.
The WebBoard currently has three conferences:
- Exploring the Internet: All messages relating to the Internet should be posted
in this conference
- Ethical Issues: All messages pertaining to the ethical issues we face as responsible
computer users should be posted here
- MS Word 97: All messages pertaining to Microsoft Word 97 should be posted in
this conference
As and when needed I will add new conferences or terminate existing conferences.
Have fun and let the discussion begin!!
