Information for CGS1100 Internet Section
I am glad you have decided to register for the internet based section.
I personally feel it is an exciting way to learn about using computers. Just
as they say "you use Diamond to cut Diamonds", here we are using computers,
to learn about computers.
However, there are some ground rules that must be established before we
launch into this course.
Hardware and Software Requirements:
You must have access to a IBM compatible PC with the following
- Windows 95 Operating System

(if you have come this far you already should be having it)

PowerPoint97
- Adobe Acrobat Reader to access my notes. Available to download for free
from

Mode of Communication:
The primary mode of communication would be through e-mail and the World Wide Web
- From time to time I will be posting course related announcements /assignments
on the course web page, or send them through e-mail.
- It is your responsibility to check for any announcements / assignments,
and submit any assignments on time.
- With respect to the e-mail messages, I will be sending e-mail messages to
your fgcu account. If you are using any other e-mail address, please arrange to
have e-mail forwarded to that address from your FGCU account. Contact
postmaster@eagle.fgcu.edu to arrange for forwarding your mail.
- You will be submitting your assignments by e-mail to me (
rbandi@fgcu.edu)
- If you need any help feel free to contact me by e-mail (
rbandi@fgcu.edu); You can reach me by phone at 941 590 7361;
- If you want to you can also meet me in person in my office (refer
syllabus for the office location, and office hours). If you can't meet me during my office
hours just give me a call and we can fix some other time
Reading Material:
As mentioned in the syllabus, we have three Required textbooks.
- These textbooks were carefully chosen to facilitate learning for
students taking the internet based courses
- You would notice that these text books are indeed self-study kits
- However, wherever appropriate, I would supplement these books with my notes
which will be available from the course web page.
- The material for the first week is very introductory. If you are not already
comfortable with the internet, I have put some notes on introduction to the
internet (look under the section "Schedule" on the course page). I would like
you to explore the various search engines to find any information that you are
interested in. Happy Net Surfing!!
Exams:
As mentioned in the syllabus, we have three mid-term exams, and one final
exam.
- You will be taking the mid-term exams, assignments and quizzes at your site. I will be posting
them on the course web page. And you will submit your work by e-mail to me by the due time.
- The final examination will be on the FGCU campus (refer to the the schedule for location and time)
