Class Summary for July 8, 1998
MAC 2311--Calculus I
We continued going through a number of examples of problems involving
finding relative maxima and minima, and inflection points of functions.
The examples are on the class file class0708.mws.
We also discussed the difference between relative (local)
and absolute (global) extrema of functions, and went through
a few examples where we found global extrema; these examples are also on
the class file. Next time we will consider some applied problems from various
fields where we want to find extrema of functions (optimization problems).
