The Brookings Institute - "A private, independent, nonprofit research organization, Brookings seeks to improve the performance of American institutions, the effectiveness of government programs, and the quality of U.S. public policies. It addresses current and emerging policy challenges and offers practical recommendations for dealing with them, expressed in language that is accessible to policy makers and the general public alike." The Carter Center - "a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy institute founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, in 1982. The Center is dedicated to fighting disease, hunger, poverty, conflict, and oppression through collaborative initiatives in the areas of democratization and development, global health, and urban revitalization." The Cato Institute - "The Cato Institute seeks to broaden the parameters of public policy debate to allow consideration of more options that are consistent with the traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty, and peace. Toward that goal, the Institute strives to achieve greater involvement of the intelligent, concerned lay public in questions of policy and the proper role of government. The Cato Institute undertakes an extensive publications program dealing with the complete spectrum of policy issues. Books, monographs, and shorter studies are commissioned to examine the federal budget, Social Security, monetary policy, natural resource policy, military spending, regulation, NATO, international trade, and myriad other issues. Major policy conferences are held throughout the year, from which papers are published thrice yearly in the Cato Journal. The Institute also publishes the quarterly magazine Regulation." The Institute for International Economics is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research institution devoted to the study of international economic policy. Since 1981 the Institute has provided timely, objective analysis of key international economic problems and proposed concrete solutions to them. The Hoover Institute - "Analyzing social, political, and economic change and formulating a diverse range of ideas and proposals on public policy are central aspects of Hoover's mission. Research results are disseminated through books, essays, articles, conferences, seminars, videotapes, newspaper commentaries, media interviews, and congressional testimony." The Hudson Institute - "The Hudson Institute is an internationally recognized public policy research organization that forecasts trends and develops solutions for governments, businesses and the public. Founded in 1961 by the late Herman Kahn, the Indianapolis-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization has more than 70 researchers and employees...Hudson Institute does not advocate an expressed ideology or political position. In general, the institution's viewpoint embodies skepticism about conventional wisdom, an appreciation of technology's role in achieving progress, optimism about solving problems, a futurist orientation, a commitment to individuality and free institutions, and a respect for the importance of religion, culture, and values in human affairs."

The Liberty Fund - The Liberty Fund is dedicated to the study and preservation of liberty and freedom. This interest, of course, means that they are also interested in tyranny. They have an wonderful publishing house that produces many classic books and sells them at heavily discounted prices. The site also has a link to http://www.econlib.org which has all sorts of information on economics and liberty. Articles abound and a number of classic sources are available in full text and searchable format. Strongly Recommended to you.

The Milken Institute - "The Milken Institute's global agenda explores the world’s economic dynamics, focusing on issues in education, labor markets and jobs; developments in capital markets and financial institutions; technology’s impact on society and the economy; globalization, trade, and the effects on international economic performance; regional (sub-national) economic performance; demographic change and the attendant consequences; and the emerging global dominance of the service sector, as well as other more specific studies in a wide range of topics." The Urban Institute - "a nonprofit policy research organization established in Washington, D.C., in 1968. The staff investigates the social and economic problems confronting the nation and government policies and public and private programs designed to alleviate them. The Institute's objectives are to sharpen thinking about society's problems and efforts to solve them, improve government decisions and their implementation, and increase citizens' awareness about important public choices."
