Online Resources

Online training material is available on the following topics:

Recommended Minimum Hardware Configuration

Computer

FGCU's Computing Services department maintains a Computer Recommendation list. Use this list to assess a computer that you own, or if you are considering the purchase of a new computer.

If you are considering the purchase of a new computer, review the discount purchasing information on the Computing Services website.

Internet Connectivity

We advise you to conduct a browser test on your computer by going to http://www.fgcu.edu/support/browser/.

Access to the Internet is needed to teach an online course. Internet access is available from on campus. Options for off-campus internet access include Cable (check with your local cable provider), DSL (check with your local phone service provider), Dial-up, and Dish/Satellite. Compare services and prices.

Recommended Software

The software you use to develop and manage course material will vary based on your needs and preferences. The software commonly used to create material for an online course includes:

  • Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Acrobat Reader

If you are purchasing software, review the discount purchasing information on the Computing Services website.

E-Mail

When you become and FGCU Faculty, an FGCU E-Mail account is established for you. Review the New Faculty and Staff information available on the Computing Services website for more information.

The Canvas LMS also has e-mail that is separate from the FGCU e-mail. Canvas e-mail is useful for managing communication with your students. For more information on Canvas e-mail, call (239) 590-7083 to speak with an Instructional Designer.
